SPECIAL ECONOMIC ZONE "DONETSK"

Special economic zone "Donetsk" is situated within the precincts of Donetsk city. The city is the regional centre and one of the largest industrial cities of the Ukraine. It occupies 358 km² and its population is one million people.

The economy of the city is represented by 190 industrial enterprises with overall production of about UAH 2.5 milliard a year, and by more than 20 thousands small-scale and middle-scale business enterprises. More than 130 thousands people work at enterprises of various branches of industry. The largest branches of industry are coal industry (36,8%), metallurgy (25,6%), machine-building and metal-work of industries (16,5%).

8.5 million tonnes coal are mined, 1.3 million tonnes of cast iron and 1.2 million tonnes of steel are smelted, 1 million tonnes of rolled metal and more than 1 million tonnes of coke are produced in Donetsk annually. Donetsk enterprises produce cotton and woolen yarn, footwear, knitted goods, refrigerators, deep-freezers, gas-stoves and washing machines as well as a wide range of foodstuffs.

One of the ways of further development of the economy of the region was the creation of Special economic zone "Donetsk". For that purpose 467 hectares were as-signed on the southern outskirts of the city.

On the territory of the special economic zone, it is planned to create technopark and to develop high-technology production of export goods. Planning structure allows to give place for enterprises whose area is from 0.5 till 100 hectares. About 10000 people will have an opportunity to work there.
